Garage Door Repair Aliso Viejo, CA: Whether you live in the city, desert, or countryside, you probably have experienced a power outage at some point. Usually it’s no big deal – just head over to a friend or relative’s house until the power is back. Unless of course, you need to drive somewhere and left your car parked in the garage. During a power outage your garage door opener is useless! Leaving you stuck at home or at a huge inconvenience. Did you know you could arm your garage door opener with a backup battery to prevent situations like this?

First things first… What is it and how much is it gonna cost me?

A backup battery is a small, 12-volt unit that supplies energy to your garage door opener in the case of an outage. Many brands of openers (LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Genie) already have this option built-in. All LiftMaster openers made after 2003 now have this option automatically. A fully charged battery can supply your door opener with power for up to 24 hours! During that time it can perform as many as 20 full cycles. (One cycle constitutes 1 open and 1 close). They recharge in 4 hours and are completely recyclable. If you want to add a battery to your present door opener, you will spend no more than $100. A replacement battery for your existing backup-battery capable garage door opener can cost as low as $15!

What if I skip out on a backup battery?

If you decide against a backup battery, your only other option is to manually open your garage door. There is a red emergency release cord on the door opener that disconnects the trolley, allowing you to manually lift the door and move your car out of the garage. Once disengaged, anyone can open your garage door manually which means your garage and belongings are no longer protected.
